A highly regarded, innovative scientific research and biological institute is looking to hire an strong, hands on and engaging Health, Safety and Environmental Advisor who is able to innovate, collaborate and further enhance a positive HSE culture.
Based in Hinxton, Cambridge
Base Salary; £36,000 – £39,000 per annum + brilliant package
Reporting directly to the Senior HSE Manager
Become a Key member of the HSE well developed and supportive HSE department. Supporting 1,000 staff across an impressive and mature campus
Assist the Head of Campus Health and Safety in the implementation of the HSE strategy by advising, monitoring, coaching and influencing managers and other campus community members on the continuous improvement of health and safety standards and related disciplines across the Campus.
Undertake project work to develop processes and procedures to inform and advise team leaders and managers on achieving safe working practices and compliance across the Campus
Take responsibility for a wide range of complex and routine health and safety casework, including the investigation of injury and non-injury events and occupational health concerns.
Develop proactive working with customer groups to offer pragmatic, professional advice to management and other Campus Members to identify and resolve challenges effectively and efficiently.
Keep abreast of and respond to changes in relevant statutory provisions in the field of health and safety, Campus scientific focus and related disciplines through dissemination of information and to advise on necessary action.
Influence behaviours of Campus Members at all levels by developing and delivering appropriate health and safety training as required.
Help delivery of a continuous health and safety improvement system through undertaking inspections and audit programmes.
In consultation with the Head of Health and Safety manage communication with enforcing authorities such as the Health and Safety Executive, Environment Agency or Anglian Water Authority.
Essential qualifications and experience;
Laboratory, biological, scientific, or chemical background or similar – ESSENTIAL
NEBOSH certificate as a minimum
Capability to develop new health and safety training material
Demonstrable experience in a tactical health and safety role
Experience of planning, preparing and conducting internal audits of performance against
accepted standards for health and safety
