HSE Recruitment are currently working with a leading and fascinating company on the recruitment of an interim Health and Safety Officer for their site in Birmingham. This role is offered on a 6 month contract basis.
This role is extremely operationally focused and requires someone that can work autonomously with little supervision - an operationally focused and hands on person, who is extremely organised and able to relate to engineers on site through industry experience.
As a Health and Safety Officer you will be required to continue the safety system work, and look at any outstanding policies and procedures. You will be responsible for looking at accidents and investigations and will be expected to be able to maintain a proper reporting system. You will liaise with the trainer to organise training in a variety of subjects for staff, and be able to keep a clear and concise record of this. Most importantly you will be able to act in a firm manner with the shop floor workers, and project an air of gravitas, meaning that policy can be enforced and staff will respect and listen to you– whilst also keeping them engaged in safety.
You will be responsible for organising and meeting with the safety reps on a monthly basis and encouraging good communication through these meetings and at all levels.
As a Health and Safety Officer you will need to understand an industrial environment and will ideally come from manufacturing or similar, with extensive knowledge and experience of dealing with workshops and similar. You ideally will be comfortable dealing with estates issues also as and when they arise.
You will have NEBOSH Certificate (or equivalent) as a minimum.
