Safety, Environmental and Quality Officer
Location: Cannock, Staffordshire
Salary: £30,000 - £35,000

Purpose: To support the delivery, implementation and compliance of the company Safety, Health, chemical Regulatory, Environmental and Quality policies. To provide accurate product classifications to aid in the safe handling of chemical products. To provide advice and guidance on all areas of SHREQ, communicate regulatory and legislative changes to internal and external stakeholders and ensure BS EN ISO 9001, BS EN ISO 14001, chemical and health and safety legislation are established, implemented, and maintained.

Nature and Scope: To maintain quality and environmental systems that are compliant with BS EN ISO 9001, BS EN ISO 14001, and legally compliant health & safety systems. Recommends, organizes, and delivers relevant training and provides advice on legislative requirements and codes of practice for the company head office and associated satellite sites. To determine the physical, health and environmental classifications for company products in the UK and Internationally. Provides health and safety support for company head office by updating company policies to maintain regulatory compliance. The role will be based at our Head Office in Shenstone, with occasional travel to other UK based sites.

Duties and responsibilities:

Regulatory and Compliance
• Classify product formulations to GHS and other requirements using our Safemix system.
• Maintain raw material classifications within our system and resolving any conflicts with suppliers.
• Assess the impact of potential new raw materials.
• Register products with competent authorities under various regulatory regimes e.g. UFI –
Poison centres, Biocides, Nordic Swan.
• Liaise with external consultants to remain up to date with regulatory changes.
• Conduct site operations audits to ensure policy and legal compliance with defined scope.
• Understand the application of legislation relevant to the company's business and ensure the company and franchisee network are kept informed of relevant changes.
• Maintain quality, environmental, chemical and health and safety systems (“Management Systems”) to comply with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, company policies and legislative requirements.
• Resolve any non-conformance within the Management Systems.
• Proof-read process change documents submitted to the department.
• Ensure emergency equipment and materials are available, maintained, and re-stocked.
• Carry out fire drills and evacuations.
• Investigate and respond to customer enquiries and complaints.
• Contribute to continuous improvements.
• Liaise with external consultants to remain up to date with regulatory changes.

Quality, Environmental and Health & Safety
• Ensure Quality, Environmental and Health and Safety risk assessments are prepared and reviewed as required.
• Help conduct risk assessments with shop floor team.
• Ensure all Company safety, environmental and quality policies are implemented consistently across the business.
• Review, recommend and implement safety, environmental and quality training for employees.
• Ensure receipt, distribution and communication of health, safety, and welfare information from HSE and EEF on new methods of accident prevention, new legislation, and codes of practice.
• Ensure that the HSE are notified of reportable accidents and dangerous occurrences.
• Maintain records of accidents/incidents and ensure action by managers to prevent recurrence.
• Assist with the induction of new employees to site.
• Accompany external visitors, such as HSE Inspectors and BSI Auditors, when on site.
• Co-ordinate, monitor and control the Management Systems audit programmes.

Desirable Qualifications
• Minimum A Level in Chemistry (or equivalent)
• Degree qualification in a relevant subject (or equivalent)
• NEBOSH Certificate (Diploma an advantage)
• IEMA and CQI Membership
• IRCA Lead Auditor (Quality & Environmental)

Desirable Experience
• Knowledge of Safemix or a similar chemical classification software (GHS/CLP/Hazcom)
• Knowledge of legislation
• Experience within Health & Safety
• Knowledge of Dangerous Goods Safety (DGSA)
• Previous ISO auditing experience
• Knowledge of business management system procedures
• French language skills an advantage.
